Don't Order Steak!
A Steak House without steak? Yes, that's us! Why? Well, the short version of the story is that our
restaurant began operating in the 1950s and did serve steak, along with a number of other items.
When Abed & Gloria Yassen purchased the restaurant in 1973, they continued to serve steak and many other favorite
dishes on the menu. After Abed's fried chicken, made using a batter to which only he knows the recipe, became
much more popular than steak, the Steak House in effect became the Chicken House! But Chicken House didn't sound
like a great name for a restaurant, AND since replacing signs is very expensive, the name Steak House was retained.
It's fairly easy to spot a newcomer to the Steak House when you hear someone ask, "Where are the steaks
on your menu?" At that point, somebody -- either a member of our staff or a customer in line will reply,
"Welcome to Walhalla! Where are you from?"
